Makes me think of Cadbury, building Bourneville as a village for their workers. Churches, community centre, affordable housing, swimming pools, trips for workers, all sorts of positive worker reforms. Not sure Mondelez would do the same today.
It's worth taking a look at what Patch.work are doing too - community driven coworking spaces, a place for the community, not just wework-style tenancy agreements.
Great point on Patch! They recently opened in Bobby's in Bournemouth (my hometown) which is a department store that returned to it's historic roots once Debenhams closed down. A great example of a dying national brand that has been transformed by a lively local brand that the world is now taking notice of. Ta!
Love that. They regenerated an old council building in Twickenham, and created a lovely community-led space. Big fan of what Freddie and his team are doing, bringing life back to local high-streets, rather than investing in cities.
